Specify round pearls for a consistent fit
Choose round pearls when a design calls for a balanced silhouette: a classic strand, a matched pair of studs or a setting with little room for variation. Compare the available pearl types and diameter ranges alongside luster and surface condition. A round shape alone does not establish color consistency, grade or suitability for a particular mounting.
Distinguish round from near-round
If symmetry matters to your design, ask to see the pearls from several angles and agree a roundness tolerance. Near-round, potato and oval pearls need their own assessment; they should not be substituted simply because they appear circular in one photograph.
Match diameter to the setting
Give the required diameter range in millimeters and the allowable variation for a pair or sequence. For a calibrated mounting, confirm its internal dimensions before purchasing. A strand’s overall length and its pearl diameter are separate measurements, so check both when calculating a finished necklace.
Compare species, luster and color
Round freshwater and Akoya pearls can serve different design briefs. Confirm the pearl type, then compare reflection clarity, body color, overtone and visible surface marks. Evaluate the proposed pair or strand together under consistent lighting, rather than choosing each pearl from unrelated images.
Order for assembly
State whether the pearls are for stringing, studs, rings or another setting. Confirm full, half or no drilling, hole size, quantity and selling unit. Ask for a lot-specific quotation with matching requirements and dispatch timing, especially when replacing pearls in an existing design.
